Three naxalistes were killed after an encounter broke out between them and the security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on January 9.
Confirming the death of the Naxalites, state Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said the security forces have achieved success in the anti-Naxal operation in Sukma.
So far, bodies of three Naxalites have been recovered and the search operation is still underway, Sharma, who holds the Home portfolio, told reporters in Raipur.
The gunfight started in the morning in a forest along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation, the official said.
Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force and CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action- an elite unit of CRPF) were involved in the operation, he said.
With this, nine Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in the state so far this year.
Anti-Naxal Operations In The PastIn the past few months, the state has seen clashes between security forces and Naxalites.
On January 3, a Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Gariaband district, which falls in Raipur division.
The state’s Bastar region saw two battles in the last three months. Firstly on January 5, four Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the region.
A head constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was also killed in the face-off, he said. The gunfight broke in a forest in south Abujhmaad along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation.
